Timmins, Ont.,-born singer Shania Twain shared the the spotlight with Eagle Eye Cherry and EMI Music Publishing Tuesday night at an awards show organized by the performing-rights organization BMI.

The ceremony, held at Beverly Hills' Regent Beverly Wilshire, honoured the composers of some of the year's best songs. Twain was named songwriter of the year for the second straight time.

Twain had five songs in BMI's list of most performed songs: "Man! I Feel Like A Woman," "That Don't Impress Me Much," "You've Got A Way," "You're Still The One" and "From This Moment On."

EMI, which had 20 titles named in the most performed songs list, was named publisher of the year for the third consecutive year, while Cherry's song "Save Tonight" was named pop song of the year, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The Offspring's "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)" was named most performed song on college radio, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas was cited four times, for "3 AM," "Back 2 Good," "Real World" and the Grammy-winning collaboration with Santana, "Smooth."

Songwriting brothers Fred and Rodney Jerkins were honored for their compositions for Brandy and Monica ("The Boy Is Mine"), Jennifer Lopez ("If You Had My Love") and Whitney Houston ("It's Not Right, But It's Okay").

Earning two citations each were composers Sarah McLachlan, Craig Bullock, Paula Cole, Sheryl Crow, Stan Frazier, Elton John, David Kahne, Murphy Karges, Mark McGrath, Joseph Nichol, Rodney Sheppard, Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti.
